What do we need in January?
With the January transfer window almost upon us, what positions should we be looking at?

I can't see us bringing in anymore than 2, perhaps 3 (unless we decide to cash in on Arnie), so I think we need:

LB - Keep Cresswell and sell Masuaku.
CM - To play alongside Rice (Noble & Obiang as backup)

If we sign 3, I think it'll be between an attacking midfielder, seeing as we're without Wilshere and Lanzini for who know's how long, and a RB, which is surely dependent on how bad Fredericks' injury is (I have no idea about this).

Re: What do we need in January?
I think we can achieve 7th without much investment tbh

i'd rather see some younger lads get a run as we're doing now

if we get chance to sell a player for good money, a player like Antonio then I would do it but he's fighting back nicely as he always does

perhaps sort left back out if an offer comes in for the obvious 2

We already have 1 shit old defensive midfielder from South America......I dont fancy another one thanks

Re: What do we need in January?
... when I said not seen him play, I meant not 'knowingly' as he made his Cardiff debut against us.

By all accounts he was Cardiff's best player in the year they went down and then moved on to Inter for 10m where he was a regular.

Would likely only cost 2-3m so a good addition in my book.

Re: What do we need in January?
Apparently we are in for Gary Medel aka 'The Pitbull' a defensive midfielder currently plying his trade at Besiktas. Has previously been at Inter, Cardiff and Sevilla.

A Chilean with over 100 caps aged 31... obviously known to Pelligrini and presumably seen as back up to Rice (as we would be fucked if anything happened to him).

Age obviously isn't ideal but presuming he is cheap then a useful (though not very exciting) squad addition... not seen him play obviously! Has anyone?

"Drinkwater is 4 years younger and has a massive point to prove having seen his career stall at Chelsea."

Problem with Drinkwater is that he'd rather rot in the reserves on 100k pw then play football. I agree we need someone with his quality but not sure he is so determined to get back playing week in week out

Re: What do we need in January?
Agree with that comma and top of my wish list is a central midfielder in the Dembele mould, an all round player who can play alongside Rice that dictates the play from deep

Agree but I think we still need more depth there,Rice is a great player but dont like the thought that the weight of expectation might affect him as we get to the latter part of the season.

Unless more long term injuries turn up I reckon there will be no substantial player acquisition. Best wait until the summer break where more considered moves an be made.

Sanchez was a last minute squad filler to replace Kouyate. He'll also be 33 in Feb.

Drinkwater is 4 years younger and has a massive point to prove having seen his career stall at Chelsea. We should defo be looking to bring him in as he would improve the depth of our midfield.

No-one fancy Drinkwater?''

I'd say with Rice's emergence, Obiang doing okay, and Sanchez back next season, we don't need him.

We need more Hughills. He was a smart investment with potential. The programmer of Football Manager said so.

Your message:

"Again I think it's a misconception really. We have to regenerate the squad. We have to operate under FFP. The only question is when you do it and whether you get the most out of it. Making money and clearing those high wages last January helped enable that spend in the Summer. Bringing in Diop and Balbuena for Collins and Fonte is a huge gain imo, not just now but for the seasons to come. I don't apologise for wanting more of that. I don't really see any alternative. We should be wanting more of it."

Collins ( as much as i loved him playing for us) & Fonte were not massively important players for us. And of course Balbuena and Diop are great signings for us. Come on Alex, mate, you know that's not what i meant.

Anyway, I'm just glad that there is progress on the playing side of things - performances and results. Hopefully, the board will support and allow MP to really push us on.

Long may it continue!!

No-one. Summer is the time for buying.

Tierney from Celtic and a Stephen N'Zonzi type in the middle.

Re: What do we need in January?
everyone else around us will spend money and bring players in so if they all improve then we also need to improve.

LB has been a big issue for me this season. Neither Cresswell or Masuaku have been good enough. I would look for a decent LB as first priority.

I have this feeling that Mark Noble days are up, he just gives the ball away too cheaply too often. He might lay on the odd decent pass but it doesn't make up for his faults. I would look at improving our midfield 2nd.

a young athletic midfielder would be ideal to partner young declan . id leave the full backs until the summer .

What do you (or that website you take as gospel) value Diop as now, V?
